Uganda Mount Elgon Organic has a hint of sweetness and a fruity quality reminiscent of something like a cantaloupe or honeydew. High on the slopes of Mount Elgon, Uganda, Mountain Harvest is working with farmers to produce high-quality Arabica coffee that also fuels a higher quality of life for farmers and their families. Our organic, ethically traded coffees are unique, delicious, and developed to fit our clients’ preferences. They’re also challenging the norms for coffee production in Uganda. Various farmers grow coffee — primarily the SL-14 and Nyasaland varieties — in some of the highest elevations in the world, ranging from 1,600 to 2,200 meters. By elevating it to the highest standards, through improved production and processing, farmers are tapping into the unrealized potential of Uganda’s Arabica coffee. Mountain Harvest is also leading a revolution in the coffee industry. We’re driven by the belief that what tastes best in your cup can and should be sustainable for the environment and provide a living income for farmers. The coffee purchased is from communities of Mount Elgon on the eastern border of Uganda, sharing the mountain with Kenya. Mountain Harvest works with approximately 850 smallholding farms on this mountain, to which we make strides each year to elevate their livelihoods through greater access to trade, higher daily purchase prices in parchment and in cherry, farmer services (ranging from organic inputs, seedlings to implement biodiversity and shade growing, and access to Village Savings Groups),and quality assurance throughout the cultivation, harvesting and processing.
